Dorm packing questions

What should I pack for a dorm?

Start with the essentials: Twin XL bedding, towels and a shower caddy, storage bins and hangers, a surge-protector power strip, laundry supplies, basic toiletries, school supplies, and your documents. Use the checklist above to work through every category and check items off as you pack.

What size sheets do dorm beds use?

Most dorm beds are Twin XL — longer than a standard Twin — so buy Twin XL sheets. Always confirm your specific school’s bed size before buying, since a few use standard Twin or Full.

What should I NOT bring to a dorm?

Most schools ban candles, incense, halogen lamps, hot plates, space heaters, and non-surge extension cords for fire safety, and many restrict pets. Check your housing office’s prohibited-items list before you pack.

How do I split things with my roommate?

Coordinate the big shared items — mini fridge, microwave, TV, rug, and any décor — so you don’t both bring one. Message your roommate before move-in to divide the list.

Does this packing checklist save my progress?

Yes — the checklist saves in your browser as you check items off, so you can come back to it all summer. Nothing is uploaded or shared. You can also add your own items and print the whole list.
